Let the record show, though, that this was nothing more than a monumental case of sour grapes: 2004’s Feels Like Home rebuilt her superstar reputation with solid bluesy-country compositions, like What Am I To You, that were also deeply pretty, and 2007’s Not Too Late saw her bounding away from boring coffehouse-crooner charges with a batch of original songs both spare and soulful. The dark-haired beauty could skid by on looks and her languid, sensual voice alone, but she continues to keep it interesting.
